Krnica (Pula)

Tourist destination info Krnica (Pula)

Krnica (Carnitia) is located in inland Istria, about 25km southeast of Pula, on the regional road toward Pula. In the past, it was called St. Mary of Krnica. Duga Uvala, the nearby well-known summer vacation and tourism settlement with a high quality offering, is located only 3km from Krnica which makes it an appropriate vacation destination for those who are in search of peace and beautiful nature and do not consider driving to the beach an inconvenience. The intriguing coast and submarine areas are perfect for scuba diving and Krnica is the ideal starting point for scuba tours of the nearby aquatorium. Sports and recreation lovers can enjoy tennis, bocce ball, mini golf, pool, soccer, handball, volleyball or rent equipment for water sports such as paddling or water floats. Apart from the standard Istrian cuisine, you can try scampi which is what Krnica is best known for at restaurants such as “Carmen” and “Bepo.” On August 16th Krnica celebrates St. Rocco (celebration in the streets), however, there are various other celebrations as well, like in Marčana where “Petrovo” is celebrated on June 29th , Mutvoran  celebrates St. Mary Magdalena on July 22nd  and Rakalj which celebrates “Svetica” on September 8th. Do not miss the nearby popular tourist destinations such as Umag, Poreč, Pula and Rovinj.

Umag is a city and port located on the northwestern coast of Istria. Many call it the city of tourism and sport because it has, for many years, hosted the ATP tennis tournament and it hosts many stars of world tennis.

Poreč is one of the more famous tourist destinations on the northwestern coast of the Istrian peninsula. Of its historical monuments we recommend you visit the North fortress, the Pentagonal fortress, canons, medieval city walls and the Euphrasian Basilica. Also take some time to view its natural beauty such as the Baredine, Mark’s and Pincinova caves, group of trees near the St. Anne church by Červar. Sport and recreation fans can enjoy activities such as scuba diving, jet-ski riding, fishing, sailing, water skiing, walking, biking, golf, hunting or paintball. Those who prefer extreme sports can experience mountain climbing or activities at the adrenalin park “Akros.”

Rovinj is a small city located on the western coast of Istria. It is rich with historical landmarks, of which we recommend the following: Old Town, City Walls and Gates, Church of St. Euphemia, Baptistry of the Holy Trinity, Franciscan Monastery, the castle on the island of St. Andrew and Dvigrad. Apart from its historical landmarks, Rovinj is rich with natural beauty, as well. Be sure to visit sights such as Limska Draga, the Rovinj islands and coastal region, “Zlatni Rat” Forest Park, “Fantazija” quarry, “Palud” marsh and the Dvije Sestrice islands.

Pula is a city rich in history and cultural monuments. Visit the amphitheater,  which dominates the city and is the 6th largest ancient amphitheater in the world, Augustus’ temple, triumphal arch of the Sergijans, the Forum, the gates of Hercules, church and monastery of St. Frances, castle, navy cemetery and many others. The city offers a wide variety of sports and recreational activities as well. You can take part in windsurfing, basketball, tennis, sailing, panoramic flights, nature climbing, golf, scuba diving, walking and cycling.
