Split - Town of the emperor Diocletian

What to see?

The statue of Gregory of Nin-constructed by the famous sculptor Ivan Mestrovic. The statue is situated directly in front of the Golden Gate, the northern entrance to Diocletian's palace. Grasp the statues big toe, and it will bring you happiness or fulfill your wishes.

Diocletian's palace - a must during your visit. It was built by the Roman emperor Diocletian. Within the palace is the Cathedral of St. Duje who is also the patron saint of Split.

Croatian National Theatre - built in neo-Renaissance style according to a project by architects Vecchieta i Bezic. It was built outside the old city grounds.

Marjan Park - is the first symbol of the city of Split. This is the most famous excursion resort in Split with 168 acres of alpine pine forest, and a viewpoint that overlooks the islands in front of Split, which are also worth a visit.

Riva - it began to receive its present form about 2 centuries ago. There you will find Diocletian's Palace, Franciscan Monastery and Palace Deskovic. Today it is pedestrian paradise for all ages.

The city of Split within 1700 years and a variety of archaeological, historical and cultural monuments, amongst which is the famous Diocletian's Palace, being the essence of the present day city of Split, is a part of world heritage by UNESCO, with appeal, and warmth of a modern Mediterranean city. This is an eternally young city that lives in a slow pace making it very easy to adapt to. The first inhabitant of this city was the Emperor Diocletian, who had ordered todays famous Diocletian's palace to be built.
