Jezera - island Murter

Tourist destination info Jezera - island Murter

Jezera is a town and a port on the north-east side of the island of Murter, connected to the Adriatic tourist road through the town of Tisno. It is the smallest town on Murter which was named after large ponds caused by rains during autumn and winter, which creates an impression of a real lake. “Lakes” disappear with the first rays of the spring sun. The place is located in the eponymous cove protected from the winds and waves. The first written monument of the Lakes dates back to year 1298, but the town is much older than that because two tombs of the Illyrian tribe Liburn were found in 1938 in Podjasenovac cove. In Jezera, you can see the parish church Our Lady of Good Health (built in 1722, an example of the Mediterranean baroque), St. Roko church (built in the 16th century, patron saint of plague victims), St. Konstancij church (built in 1780, patron saint of malaria victims who brought the stones to build the church and the surrounding wall), St. Ivan of Trogir church (built in the 17th century, legend says that this church was spared from the arson set by the Maurs, because its tower did not have a cross carved in, but a flame instead), St. Nikola church ( patron saint of travelers, sailors, fishermen and children) and numerous other historical monuments and findings.

The locals are involved in fishing and tourism. The place has recently evolved into one of the strongest middle Dalmatian fishing centers. If you would like to buy some fresh fish, you can do it directly in the evening hours when the fishermen come from the sea. Numerous festivities and manifestations are organized in Jezera during summer. Enjoy countless parties during the Jezera sea days. Some of the most famous festivities are “ball in our bay” (evening of folklore groups from this region), “games in our way) (competition in old skills and sports), “the way in which the old folks used to live and party” (a representation of the old trades, customs and homemade cuisine), “fishing festivity of Jezera” ( August 15th – a party on the riva), “fig festivity”, an evening of dialectological poetry, “the day of Jezera” (September 8th), “Oh deep sea” (August 15th), and at the end of September the international sports fishing “Big Game Fishing”. You can enjoy and relax on the beaches “Podjasenovac”, “Lovisca” and “St. Nikola cove”. Sports enthusiasts and those in search of an active vacation can practice little football, football, tennis, bowling, volleyball, sailing, swimming, diving, running, cycling and many other activities. If you are willing to savor the delicacies of this region and get acquainted with the Dalmatian cuisine, visit the restaurants “Zlatna Skoljka”, “Lucica”, “Delfin”, “Leut”, as well as the taverns “Kandela” and “Kod Ribara”.

Jezera was a charming town with lots to offer. At night you could stroll around the harbor and take in the sights. Then choose from one of the fantastic restaurants with a lovely atmosphere. By day you could charter a boat for fishing or touring the islands and also there are places to rent bikes.
